Documentary: Engineering an Empire: Russia

Sometimes I like my grad school course of study; sometimes I don’t. The times when I don’t usually occur when I’m missing being a Russian scholar. Keeping my connection to Russian studies and everything Russia-related is important to me, so recently I have spent quite a few weekends watching documentaries. The documentary I am going to share with you today is called Engineering an Empire: Russia. I live-tweeted it back when I watched it (my tweets are embedded below).

It’s a history channel documentary, so unfortunately it isn’t as detailed as it could be. (I mean, it skips from Ivan the Terrible to Peter the Great. That means the whole story of how Mikhail Romanov became tsar in 1613 is skipped over and that makes me sad, as it’s one of my favorite parts of Russian history.)
