Happy Blogiversary To Me!

HappyBlogiversary

It’s my blogiversary.

Okay, actually it’s the third anniversary of the domain registration for this blog. I blogged a bit in January 2011 on a WordPress-hosted site, then transferred those entries over here once I officially started blogging in March 2011. Technically, my actual blogiversary isn’t for another month.

Nevertheless, I feel like today is a good day to reflect on my blog and its direction.

I confess to being a bit lost about the direction I want to take my blog. I’ve been writing a lot of personal posts and I’m uncertain if readers like that sort of thing or not. (Another question is whether I should worry about what readers think. Some people write solely for themselves, right?) I write about the Russian language a lot, too, because it’s such a big part of my life.

When I originally started this blog, I planned on writing it under my real name. (Yeah, that didn’t happen. There are reasons why and I’d be happy to write about that later.) I also planned to write about history. Somehow that didn’t happen, at least not yet. I am considering writing more about history on here. I was a history major in college and you know what they say: once a history major, always a history major. (That mysterious “they” refers to me specifically because I made up that saying.)

I love history and I do think there’s an audience for history blogging. After all, as someone once said, people are interested in history, as there is a history channel on TV, not a sociology or psychology or chemistry channel. So, going forward you may be seeing more history-related posts on here. If you hated history in school, don’t despair: a lot of teachers make history dreadfully boring. I am many things, but boring isn’t one of them!

I want to continue to live up the “fluent” part of this blog’s name, so I also plan to write more about Russian, other Slavic languages, and language learning in general.

I have sort of returned to Russia-watcher blogging. I have a lot of thoughts about the recent events in Ukraine that I will have to write on here at some point, or else I’ll go crazy with them all running around in my head.

Here’s where you come in, readers. What do you love (or hate) about this blog? What would you like to see more of? Less of? Or is this blog the epitome of perfection in its current form? 😉
