At long last, the Daily Post (a blog about blogging) has a prompt I actually want to answer! Okay, that sounds mean, but I don’t usually get inspired by writing prompts. Anyway, here’s today’s prompt: If you could wake up tomorrow and be fluent in any language you don’t currently speak, which would it be? Why? What’s the first thing you do with your new linguistic skills?
If I could be fluent in any language, I’d choose Serbian. Why? Because Serbian is awesome and I love it. I’ve been obsessed with the idea of learning Serbian since July 2008. I ultimately ended up going with Russian in college because it’s more versatile and it was the only Slavic language offered at my school. I still haven’t given up on Serbian, though. I think it’s a beautiful language and I have actually tried to learn it recently, after learning Russian. I had to quit because it was interfering with my Russian.
Getting back to the prompt, if I woke up tomorrow fluent in Serbian, I’d probably start researching that Radovan Karadžić book I desperately want to write. That may seem like an odd thing to do, but regular readers of this blog know I’m pretty unique. 🙂
